It’s exactly 5:01 am when I decided to write about this topic. While listening to Midnight Rain by Taylor Swift, I feel the words she had sung, as they envelop my very being. I am Midnight Rain and at some point in time, I’ve given up on love because to me, there were better things to do– greater things to accomplish.
Today, I’m still that girl boss. I’m still very much a career-oriented woman. But, consider this a note I’m writing both to you and to myself:
Dear Midnight Rain, you don’t have to give up on love.
There will come a time when love would knock at your door and peace would overtake you– when love feels like peace. There will come a time when love would not be confusing. When love becomes sure. When love becomes intentional. When love becomes real.
Dear Midnight Rain, you don’t have to hide behind work just to escape what you feel. You’ve loved and gotten hurt. You can move on. You can move on from this.
There will come a time when you won’t have to choose. When love would not feel like a distraction from the things you’re supposed to do. And when it would become easy to trust– when it would feel safe to trust.
Dear Midnight Rain, it’s free to dream. Pray for a healthy kind of love.
Dear Midnight Rain, you don’t need to lessen yourself just to be accepted– just to be loved. The love for you will celebrate your wins and lift you up during your losses. The love for you will recognize that go-getter inside of you and encourage you even more.
You are Midnight Rain for a reason. Acknowledge that the God we serve is sovereign enough to complement His creation.
Dear Midnight Rain, it’s about time. For now, prepare. Learn and unlearn things to improve. Work with God for that love season. And never limit what He can do in your life.
Dear Midnight Rain, remember the God you’re serving. And remember that it’s not about you, primarily. Love will be for Him, about Him, and with Him. Learn to prioritize your Creator, as early as in the waiting season.
It’s now 5:15 am. As I write the last few phrases of this piece, I’ve come to realize that it’s not a curse to be Midnight Rain. We’re wired differently and we’re gonna be paired uniquely, all the more.
Dear Midnight Rain, this is me telling you that you don’t need to give up on love. The right kind of love will find you. And when it does, I hope you acknowledge it and welcome it with open arms.
Dear Midnight Rain, you don’t need to give up on love.
