“why read the Bible?”

“Why read the Bible? What’s the value in it?”

In everything we do, we aim to extract value. We spend time with loved ones for emotional support. We work for monetary value. We sleep or exercise to stay healthy and fit.

Today, I found myself suprisingly stuck with the the question in me: “why read the Bible? what value will I get from it?”

I know I’m already somewhat spiritually mature. I am spiritually healthy. I said, “‘might as well do other things”.

But, reading the Bible is not mainly for spiritual maturity. It’s about knowing God’s heart for you.

God reminded me of Mary, how she chose the better part of simply remaining at Jesus’ feet. How she was just enveloped by Jesus’ love.

Hosea 11:1,3-4 (ESV)

“1 When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. 3Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk; I took them up by their arms, but they did not know that I healed them. 4 I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them.”

These verses remind us of the Father’s heart. Spend time with our Heavenly Father today and let Him remind you of how much He loves

— of how much He loves you.
