Ephesians 4:22–24 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
“God is the God of change”, I wrote as I entered a new phase of my life as a Christian. I’ve recently been called to a different church. And I felt it strongly in my spirit to have that as my bio since I was going through a lot of change.
God is the God of change. And yes, change can be scary. Change can be burdensome. Change can be lonely.
But, change can also mean renewal. Rebirth. Re-strategizing.
Ephesians 4:24 encourages us to “put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness”. What does that really mean? And do we fake our way towards the call?
Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
You know, I love the Bible. I’ve grown to love it because it offers true, genuine truth about the body of Christ and how we should live. A part of that is living in truth.
In Philippians 4:8, the audience was encouraged to live life truthfully first. Then, honorable, just, and so on. But, the term “true” was first highlighted.
Us, as a church, need not live life with a mask on. Us, as a church, are called to live authentically. Authentically good. Authentically Christ-like.
Now, let me leave you with this: What is authentic to you? And how can you go on being transformed into the image of Christ?
