On Toxic Resilience & Right Timings

Resilience. It’s one of the most recently talked about phenomena, at least in the Philippine set-up. Filipinos are said to be one of the most resilient people on the planet; we are known to still render a smile, despite the hardest challenges thrown at us.

But, is it always about being resilient? Is it always about being strong? Is it always about endurance?

In all my years as a Christian, I’ve managed to go through ups and downs. I’ve gone through seasons of submission and yielding, especially when God is trying to work something in me. I’ve gone through pruning and hardships for the sake of the Gospel I preach. However, now that I’m in a different season, the question now stands: “is it always about being strong or enduring?”

Ecclesiastes 3:1

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens”

I pose this question because, for me, the answer is “no”; I don’t think it’s always about enduring. I don’t think it is always about taking the hit in the name of resilience. For there will be a time when God calls us to endure and there will be a time when God will call us to fight or attack– the right way. And in both times, may we continue to yield under His Spirit in order to respond accurately and effectively.

I write this to you because I don’t want you to be helpless– to renounce the claim that God makes people weak in any regard. I write this to you to remind you of the power that we have in Jesus. We just need to discover this treasure we’ve found.

I want to remind you, church, that we are called to be His hands and feet in a world that desperately needs Christ. We must take the offensive side, rather than the defensive most of the time. The enemy has already taken more than what we were willing to give; we must not let him take anything else– we must yield to the Spirit of God.

Ephesians 2:10

“We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

My battle cry for this nation is development. And for anyone who has the same compassion for the Philippines, we must first have the right perspective on the seasons, as God would reveal it to us.

God is on our side. Therefore, may it be in times of endurance or marching on, we are far from being helpless.
