blame it on the overtly ambitious

We try to control what’s next

– in an attempt to not get hurt

Help me not have the final word

– when I say that I don’t need

– someone like you in my life

Maybe it’s in the vibe

For it‘s quite refreshing

– refreshing how you went after what you want

And that just happened to be me

‘Got me thinking about the past

And how they did not last

Was it something about me

Or are they now missing out on something

‘Got me thinking about how often

– how often we don’t get what we want

Blame it on the overtly ambitious

Or the overtly cautious

You can even blame it on the stars

– how they did not align for me

– how they did not align for you

But, God knows how hard I fought for you

– the past peeking seamlessly through

I’m now seeing things through

I may have just been ending a chapter

But, I know what I want

– and that’s something the present can give

Call it assurance

Call it good communication

Call us old-fashioned

Yes, I want a life outside the digital

I want a love outside social media

Call it assurance

Call it good communication

Call us old-fashioned

I guess I’m one step closer

– one step closer on wanting to be kept by you
